Democratic National Convention, San Francisco, July 1984
In a historic move, presidential nominee Walter F. Mondale selected New York Representative Geraldine A. Ferraro as his running mate. Ferraro, seen on the video screen above the convention floor, was the first woman placed on a national ticket by a major political party.

Republican incumbents Ronald Reagan and George Bush defeated the Democrats in the presidential election.
