Gassed and blinded French infantrymen are led by comrades, and escorted by British soldiers, from the line during the second Battle of the Marne. The Second Battle of the Marne, or Battle of Reims (15 July to 6 August 1918) was the last major German offensive on the Western Front during World War I. It failed when an Allied counterattack led by French forces overwhelmed the Germans, inflicting severe casualties. Along with the Battle of the Argonne Forest, the Second Battle of the Marne marked the beginning of the end of WWI.
