From Selma to Montgomery for the Vote

Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King, and thousands more march from Selma, Ala., to the state capital in Montgomery in May, 1965, demanding civil rights, including the right to vote for all. That August, President Johnson signed the landmark Voting Rights Act, which prohibited states from imposing any "voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure ... to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color."
