Robinson's first season was not easy, as he was taunted by fans, opposing players, and even (occasionally) his own teammates. But he had the strength to ignore the comments -- or, at least, to fight the urge to openly retaliate -- and not only persevered, but excelled. He made opponents pay by wreaking havoc on the basepaths and with his bat, and he was hardly averse to letting loose with an especially hard slide when the situation warranted.
