In 1969, US. Sen. Ted Kennedy and former Robert Kennedy campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne were driving in his car on Dike Bridge on Chappaquidick Island, Mass., when it plunged into the water after a late-night party. Kennedy escaped, but Kopechne drowned.
