'Saturday Night Live': Early Years

Live From New York, It's Saturday Night!

Live From New York, It's Saturday Night!

On Oct. 11, 1975, NBC debuted a scrappy late-night sketch comedy show, giving it a shot as a replacement for reruns of Johnny Carson. Three and a half decades later, it may not be as funny or fresh as it once was, but Saturday Night Live is still kicking. In the 2003 oral history Live From New York, James A. Miller and Tom Shales interviewed the show's cast and crew about the good, the bad, and the ugly of those early days — now, go down memory lane with those stories, plus archival photos of Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, and more.
