A Killer Flood Hits the Philippines
A Child is Rescued
Within days of heavy downpours--the worst in 40 years-- swamping the Philippines, they were hit by another fierce storm and then severe landslides. Manila, the capital, was particularly hard hit by the flooding: Some 80 percent of the city is still under water and, sadly, at least 298 people were killed in the initial storm; dozens more are missing. The landslides that struck on October 9 have so far killed 160. Pictured: In the suburbs of Manila, a Filipino boy is pulled to safety using an inflated tire.
